Privacy Policy
Last updated: 3 August 2026 · Terms of Service
This policy explains, in plain language, what information FireSiteChat collects, why, and the choices you have. We try to collect as little as we can, and to keep what we do collect safe.
The short version
Using FireSiteChat without an account
- You don't have to sign up to chat. On our own website and browser extension we don't ask for your name or email. Instead, we give your device an anonymous label and keep basic records of how the service is used, enough to apply fair-use limits, keep the service secure and reliable, and improve it. That label isn't tied to who you really are.
- When you chat through a chat box that a business has added to its own website, you don't have to sign in there either. By default we treat you the same way: an anonymous label and basic usage records, with no way for us to know who you are, and your conversation isn't kept. If you'd like your history in one place, you can choose to sign in from the chat box too. The one thing that ever reaches the business is a quote or booking request you fill in and send yourself, which needs an account.
- Either way, we don't sell your personal information to other companies.
When you create an account
- We keep your email, your preferences, and your chat history so you can pick up where you left off: what you asked, the answer, which website it was about, and when.
- Your profile can also hold optional contact details (name, contact email, phone and mobile numbers). We pre-fill what your sign-in provides; you can edit or clear every field in Profile & settings. They're used only if a website you deal with needs to reach you, and never for marketing.
- You can sign in anywhere FireSiteChat appears - our website, our extension, or a business's chat box - and your history follows your account. Signing in always happens with us, not with the business whose website you're on: they never receive your email or your conversations.
- If you ask the assistant to contact a business for you, it sends the message you agreed to, and attaches your name, contact details and any preferred time from your profile so the business can reply. Nothing is sent unless you ask for it in the conversation, and the chat shows you what was shared the moment it goes. This is the one time we hand your details to a website, and it only ever happens because you asked us to.
- You're always in control: delete any single conversation, download a copy of your information, or delete your whole account and everything in it, at any time, in the app.
Information we collect
- Information you give us, such as your email, preferences, and optional contact details when you create an account, and any conversations you choose to save.
- Information about how the service is used, such as which features are used, which website a question was about, the type of answer given, and general activity and timing. This is linked to your account when you're signed in, and otherwise to the anonymous label - including in a business's embedded chat box.
- Website content: to answer questions about a website, we read its public pages, the way a search engine does. That's information about websites, not about you.
- A note that your account has used a website, if you're signed in. It records that your account asked about that website at least once, and nothing about what you asked. It's kept only to count how many different people use each website, which is what orders our public list of websites. It is deleted with your account, and the count drops accordingly.
How we use information
We use the information above to provide and improve the service, answer your questions, keep your history when you're signed in, apply fair-use limits and plan features, and keep the service secure, reliable, and fair for everyone.
As the service grows, we may introduce new features or ways to support it, such as paid options or advertising. If we ever use your information in a materially new way, we'll update this policy to explain it, and ask for your consent where the law requires.
How we share information
We don't sell your personal information and we don't share it for advertising. We use trusted third-party providers to help us run the service, for example to host it, to process payments if you buy a plan, and to power the AI that generates answers. We give them only what they need and expect them to protect it. We may also disclose information if the law requires it, or where reasonably necessary to protect our rights, our users, or the public.
Quote and booking requests are the one exception, and you make it. When you ask the assistant to contact a business, we pass your name, contact details, message and any preferred time to that business, and we email them to say a request arrived. You'll see a line in the chat naming exactly what was shared, at the moment it is sent. Businesses on a free plan are told a request is waiting but cannot see who sent it until they upgrade. From the moment they receive it, that business holds your details as its own customer record, and how they use it is up to them and their own privacy policy. If you later delete your FireSiteChat account we erase your details from our copy, but we cannot reach into a business's inbox.
How long we keep things
Your account, your chat history and your website list stay until you delete them, or until you delete your account. Everything else has a clock on it:
- Fair-use counters for visitors who aren't signed in are keyed by a one-way code that is re-generated every week, so they can't be linked from one week to the next. They're deleted a few days after the week they belong to ends.
- Service records of each answer - which website was asked about, which engine and model answered, how long it took and how much it used. When we keep these, we keep them for 90 days, so we can spot faults and abuse and keep the service affordable. They never include your question or the answer, and they never include the visitor code above. Answers given through a website's chat bubble are never recorded here.
- Admin records of changes our staff make to accounts and websites (who changed what, and whether it worked) are kept for a year.
- Pages we've read from a website are cached so we don't fetch the same page over and over. That's the website's own public content, not anything about you.
- Quote and booking requests are business records for the website that received them, so we keep them for two years. Deleting your account erases your name, contact details and message from ours straight away; the business keeps a record that a request arrived, marked as belonging to someone who has since deleted their account.
Deleting your account also removes the service records for the websites you added.
Your choices and rights
You can do all of this yourself in the app, or email info@firesitechat.com:
- See and download the information we hold about you.
- Delete a single conversation, or your whole account and its data.
- Correct your settings, or ask us to fix anything else.
- Stop saving new information any time by signing out.
Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under local privacy laws, including the right to complain to your local privacy regulator. We honour those rights and generally respond within 30 days.
Cookies
We don't use advertising or tracking cookies. We store only what's needed to run the app (your preferences and, if you sign in, your session) so it works properly.
Keeping the service safe
We take reasonable steps to protect your information, and we may monitor and limit use of the service to keep it secure, reliable, and fair, and to prevent misuse. No online service can be perfectly secure, but if a problem ever affects your information we'll act on it and notify you and the authorities where the law requires.
You're talking to an AI
Answers are generated by artificial intelligence and can be wrong or incomplete. We label answers to show whether an automated check was run, but no label is a guarantee. Please verify anything important.
Children
FireSiteChat isn't intended for children, and accounts aren't offered to anyone under 16. If you believe a child has created an account, contact us and we'll remove it.
Websites we read
To answer questions about a website we read its public pages and respect standard "do not crawl" signals. If you run a website and would prefer it not be available on FireSiteChat, let us know and we'll remove it.
Our public list of websites
We publish a list of websites people ask about here, ordered by how many different signed-in people have used each one. A website appears only once it is fully indexed and several different people have asked about it, and each entry shows the website's own name, its address, how much of it we've indexed, and that number of people. It never shows who asked, or what anyone asked.
If you own a website, you can remove it from this list yourself in your console, or ask us and we'll do it.
Changes
We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we'll change the date above, and for significant changes affecting account holders we'll show a notice in the app.
